Live. Let live.

Before getting into the topic, I would like to make us think for a minute about how many of us are aware of the prevailing Caste-centered of people around us, even today? It might be anyone! Our friends, parents, teachers, neighbors, etc.

Shedding light on the bitter truth that the Caste system still prevails on a higher or lower scale in the world around us to date, the concept of “Caste” is more evidently replaced by something called “Culture.” Yet, we unconsciously believe that we all are protecting our Culture when the irony is we aren’t protecting our culture instead protecting our community’s practices. People believe, Untouchability has been eradicated and equality has bloomed. But, No! there are innocents around us, going through innumerable ways of humiliation due to the Caste system.

Introducing here, the Tamil movie Pariyerum Perumal (2018), which serves to be an eye-opener. It makes its stand against the Caste system and its effects on innocents. The storyline features Pariyan, an oppressed guy in society, dreams of becoming an advocate to stand up for his village. Tension arises in the story with him having a friendship with Jo, a girl who belonged to the Elites.

At the initial stages of the film, without much ambiguity, we could understand the symbolism of Pariyan’s dog getting killed brutally to represent oppression. Also, there goes a scene in which Pariyan is beaten up by Jo’s dad and her relatives for just having a bond of friendship between them. And, that’s when Pariyan understands that this kind of oppression among humans has not yet been abolished. Since then this character is seen to be standing with his head up to all those who tried to put him down only because of his community!

The story renders a powerful message, that each one of us keeps in mind and puts ourselves into action to treat our fellow humans as Equality is something that everyone deserves. So, let us let the talented ones bring out their Talents. And, live their life as they wish to despite the castes that they belong to.

No matter who we are and how different we look, We all are Humans 💕
